A charter flight is, of course, the most comfortable way to get there! It’s also a large investment, typically costing between $65,000 – $100,000 — the range is dependent on the size of aircraft, the airport from which you’re departing and how long you’ll be staying.

Breaking Down the Costs

If you’re flying out of the San Diego area, pricing for a charter flight to Hawaii starts around $65,000. The cost varies depending on the number of nights you’ll be staying there. A seven day, six night trip in the Gulfstream IV, for example, would cost more – closer to $85,000. To get the best value, plan a six-day, five-night trip. After that, daily minimums would start to take effect and increase the price.

A one way flight can also be cost-effective, but these are often hard to find. They’re much less frequent than coast to coast one-way charter flights. It will be easiest to find one-ways to Hawaii during busy seasons, like the winter holidays and spring time.

Which Aircraft is Best for the Flight?

Did you know that the distance between the U.S. mainland and Hawaii is the longest route over water in the world? Because of this, only certain jets can comfortably carry enough fuel to make the journey. A super mid-sized or heavy jet like the Challenger 300 or Gulfstream IV are the two aircraft within our fleet that are certified to fly to Hawaii on a charter flight.

The cost to fly charter to Hawaii sounds very high, but can be comparable to purchasing first class tickets if you have enough passengers flying with you. The Challenger 300 seats eight passengers and the GIV seats thirteen – if all available seats are filled and the price is shared among all passengers, the price comes closer to commercial first class but the experience of flying with just your friends our family is far better, as I like to say, your vacation begins as soon as you board your Schubach aircraft.

If you have a smaller group, there are some lighter jets that are equipped with extra fuel tanks that can make the long journey to Hawaii though they can be tough to find. A larger jet is definitely the most comfortable option. The flight is about six hours from east to west, so comfort is key.

Pets and Other Considerations

If you’re flying with a large group, you will need to fly out of an airport with a long runway because of the weight of passengers, luggage, and fuel. From the San Diego area, this would be a flight out of San Diego International or one from Carlsbad to Long Beach, then Hawaii. Typically, the Long Beach option is the most cost-effective because fuel costs significantly less there than it does at San Diego International.

Do you often travel with your pets? Be careful when traveling to Hawaii – the state has strict animal quarantine rules. Some pets are restricted or prohibited, so make sure to do your research before deciding to bring your pet along.

If your pet is allowed in the state, you will need to bring him to the Airport Animal Quarantine Holding Facility. It can take up to an hour to get from the airport to the facility, so be sure to arrange for a flight that lands before 3:30 PM. If your pet arrives after 4:30, he’ll be held there overnight. Your charter operator can help you figure out the details though unless you are going for a very long time it’s typically not worth the added stress for you or your pets.

Flying private to Hawaii is sure to be a memorable, hassle-free experience for you and your guests.
